Also the 16 Bit color and over 14 stops of dynamic range truly set the medium format digital cameras apart from your full frame dslr. With over 20 years of experience photographing with both systems, here are the pro’s and cons: The Good: The “Medium Format Look.” If you don’t know what I’m talking about, keep scrolling! No words can really make this clear… It’s just different, and in a very good way. The photos you make with this camera will be eye watering. Stunningly detailed, gorgeous color and tonal gradations, and really, more “lifelike” images are born with every click. The photos you take with this camera will have a buttery smooth color and tonal gradation due to the 16 bit color science and in conjunction with Capture One Software, well, the results are simply amazing, right out of the camera. If you do need to push and pull things after the fact, well, you have the dynamic range to do so. The Bad: All medium format cameras just do not have the lightning fast auto focus we have gotten used to in the full frame dslr or mirrorless camera world… There is no “face tracking” or any of that other wizardry here… The “burst rate” is laughable here. This is not for the sports shooter. This is good for the photographer who doesn’t need to take more than 1 picture per second. Do you like to spray and pray? If yes, this is not for you. This camera is “at home” in the studio. It is best to shoot no higher than 400 ISO. Give this sensor some light! A good 3 point lighting setup for portraits is the BEST CASE USE for this camera, with absolutely mind blowing results. If you do not know exactly what I’m talking about here, this is not for you. Every camera is a tool… and this tool is best used with A LOT OF LIGHT. If you know and love using strobe lighting, this camera may change your life. It changed mine. I’m selling this camera for one reason. I’m upgrading to an even better medium format system. Otherwise I’d keep enjoying this beautiful image making machine… A LOT of Hasselblad H users are doing the same thing, as Phase One decided to only produce the latest of their IQ line of cameras for their own XF platform. For the light crafting studio photographer on a budget, this is PERFECT and a really interesting time actually… as the market is now being flooded with Hasselblad H lenses for this very reason. For the first time I can recall, (and I’ve been in the medium format digital game for 20 years)… getting started in the medium format world is actually affordable! You can easily build out your kit here for 1/4 the cost of the comparable Phase One “Schneider” Blue Ring lenses… if not less!.. and the HC lenses for this camera are made by Fuji and they are absolutely STUNNING. The detail and the bokeh are a thing to behold. I’m throwing in the film back and a whole slew of batteries to get you started. Let the fun begin! It’s a whole new world!
