This is an opportunity to own a piece of history minted between 969-976 AD. John I Tzimisces is already more scarce than most anonymous follis. This one is even more special as it is an overstrike of another byzantine coin that has left the legend of the original coin across the bottom half of the coin. It managed to do this while maintaining a great strike of the scarcer, close up portrait of Christ. I have not been able to officially identify the coin that was overstruck, but if you can tell, please let me know. It is likely Constantine VII with Romanus I or Romanus II. If it is Romanus II, that would make it an even better find. I will continue to research the legend. This is a genuine coin authorized under John I, struck in bronze, and in the exact condition you see pictured. This coin features a portrait of Jesus Christ on the obverse with legend of an overstruck coin visible and has legend on the reverse which translates to Jesus Christ King of Kings. This is a coin that has been sought after for years, as it holds both a special historical value and value to collectors who are Christian. It is a chance to own one that is guaranteed authentic. Grading is subjective. In my opinion, this coin is F. Please look at my other NGC graded ancient coins and raw coins that I have listed.
