This listing is for a controller mod installation service for the old 3DS XL. You must provide your own 3DS XL. Listing includes the installation, the controller mod board, 4 controller cables, and shipping to buyer. Does not cover buyer’s shipping to me. You will receive one cable for each controller type (SNES, N64, GCN, Wii). I also offer capture card installations for this model. Check my other listings. If you want both on the same console, DM me for a discount. Original DS, DS Lite, 3DS, 2DS, and New 3DS XL will be available later. If you want to do it yourself, I do sell the assembled and programmed controller board separately. Please check my other listings. Installation:The controller port is a micro USB port that’s placed where the left wrist strap holder goes. This way, there are no external cuts to the shell of your console. A thin (0.11mm) flex PCB is used to connect the controller board to the 3DS XL motherboard, so there’s no bulging. It can be installed before or after a capture card installation. Functionality:This modification allows you to use wired Nintendo controllers in any game, DS and DSiWare included. You can use SNES, N64, GameCube, and Wii Classic controllers. GameCube and Wii controllers can act as a Circle Pad Pro if the game supports the CCP. It cannot control the power button nor the touch screen. SNES is mapped 1:1 with its existing buttons. L + R + Start + Select = Home. You can set the DPAD to act as the circle pad.For N64, C buttons = ABXY. Z = L. Start + Z = Select. L + R+ Z + Start = Home. Everything else is 1:1.For GameCube, L + R + Z + Start = Home. Z + Start = Select. Everything else is 1:1. For Wii, everything is 1:1. You can change these as you wish, but if you press Start + Select while turning the 3DS on, it will reset back to these settings. Button mapping supports setting button combos (like Z + Start = Home), or setting multiple 3DS buttons to a single controller button (ex. pressing ZR on the Wii Classic controllers inputs L + R + Start + Select for very quick and easy soft resets). For Wii and GameCube, since they have a second analog stick, there are 4 possible modes for it.Circle Pad Pro Emulation: When the controller board detects that the 3DS is looking for the CCP, CCP mode is entered automatically regardless of what you currently have set. You can turn this off. The CCP has its own set of buttons (L, R, ZR) and those are mapped correspondingly to the GC and Wii’s buttons. The second analog stick controls the CCP’s circle pad.Shared Circle Pad: Both sticks act as the left circle pad.Button Mapped: The second analog stick can be used as buttons. Set to ABXY by default. You can map it to the DPAD as well for games that have camera control on the DPAD but no CCP support. Example: FE: Shadows of Valentia. Only the “New” models support camera control via the c-stick, but the dpad can also control the camera. You can also set it to button combinations. This is the default mode for Wii Classic controllers.Smash Stick: the second stick inputs a quick Smash attack. Hold Z to charge the Smash attack. It doesn’t handle exactly as it would in the console Smash games (ex. since it inputs the full analog stick range, it has better SDI and mashing capabilities than just using the analog stick on its own). This is the default for GameCube controllers. If a capture card is already installed and the USB port for it goes in the spot of the IR transmitter/receiver, you will not be able to use the Circle Pad Pro functionality of the controller mod board.This is the most common install method for 3DS XL capture cards. If you saved the little IR transmitter/receiver board, I can move the capture card port elsewhere and restore IR functionality. Send me a message if this is your situation and you want a controller mod. If you purchase more than 1, and are interested, I will include a prototype controller splitter that lets you use 1 Wii Classic Controller to control up to 4 other consoles (only works with Wiimote and the 3DSes). It will not cost you extra. Please understand that it is a prototype and should not affect your decision when purchasing this service.
